| Let's face it, we all like to receive a personal note from someone. Handwritten personal notes are special. They are also rare in this day and age of email and instant messaging. Taking the time to write a personal note shows you care about your contacts and many of your contacts will treasure your notes because they are so rare. Send out a hand-written personal note each time you "touch" your contact. In this sense a "touch" is not a physical touch but a touch-point - a point in time when you make contact with the person. It could be after a personal visit, a phone call or bumping into them in a bar or store. Your note doesn't need to be fancy. Just send a note to say how much you appreciated seeing them again or how good it was to talk on the phone. If someone has done something for you, send them a note of thanks. If the waiter at the restaurant was really good, leave a personal note behind. It's a good idea to include your business card in your notes but not always necessary. Aim to send one personal note each day to start with and then increase your target as you get more comfortable with it. |
